The exhibition ‘By the People 2 – Creative Chinese Characters’ opened on 23 September 2026 at the Guangdong Museum of Art in Guangzhou. It is jointly organised by the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Guangdong Museum of Art, with planning by both the Guangdong Museum of Art and the Hong Kong Museum of Art.
The exhibition continues the original series, presenting nearly ninety sets of works from the Hong Kong Museum of Art, private collectors, and institutions. These pieces span various media, and new exhibits have been added to further explore the possibilities of contemporary calligraphy.
Visitors are invited to discover the creative use and cultural meaning of Chinese characters from multiple perspectives. The exhibition highlights the close relationship between Chinese characters, calligraphy, creativity, and art, reflecting the vitality of contemporary Chinese culture.
Chinese characters have a long history and distinctive structure, providing inspiration for scholars and calligraphers. Craftsmen, artists, and designers from different regions incorporate Chinese characters into daily life and modern creative works.
This exhibition is part of a series promoting Chinese culture. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department continues to encourage public understanding of Chinese history and culture through diverse programmes and activities.
The exhibition is open Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with last admission at 4:30 pm. It is closed on Mondays, except on 5 October 2026.
